ICT Agro

From viticulture to irrigation, agriculture is now increasingly applying ICT to farm management, with innovative applications for irrigation, plant disease prevention and phenological monitoring.

The new ICT solutions support the mapping, transmission, gathering and processing of data: web platforms exchange and manage information regarding agrometeorological, environmental, epidemiological and irrigation parameters, and distributed wireless sensor networks gather real-time data on soil moisture, air temperature, atmospheric pressure and hydric stress.

Precision farming techniques support plant disease prevention, water saving and the rational use of plant protection, cutting costs and boosting production quality. Research also focuses on new transmission technologies and protocols: narrowband networks, such as DMR (Digital Mobile Radio), have proven to be stable and effective, enabling a more rational use of bandwidth and lower investments in infrastructure.

Agriculture is therefore fertile terrain for ICT innovation, with a wide array of potential applications.
